As part of the bankruptcy filing, Friendly's announced that it had closed 63 of its restaurant locations which were underperforming. According to the company, the closures were a "difficult but necessary decision" to "realize important cost savings and operational efficiencies that will improve its financial foundation so it can better serve all constituencies." The companies' remaining 424 restaurants are expected to remain open, as are the companies' manufacturing and distribution operations.
